The day after the race, my head was spinning with old memories of the elite level scary past and I needed to see some trees. Skipped lunch, took the cross bike over trails and roads, leaving at noon. About 2:30, my mind in a hungry daze, I pulled off the side of Redwood or Pinehurst Road, sat by the bank of this slow creek and chewed on bay leaves, which helped the hunger pains. Home at 4. I slept well, which was the goal.
